Over the last century (and even in a shorter period of time), substantial technological innovations, changes and inventions have occurred that have changed the way humanity lives at large in an irrevocable manner. Indeed, when studying the history of humanity (and especially that of the western world), it appears that such significant change and alteration has occurred in the nature of society over the last century or less that people who lived prior to this period for thousands of years would not be able to fathom the state of society in the present. Truly, if someone passed away in 1960, they would not be able to comprehend or recognize the world and the changes that have occurred especially within the United States over the last several decades.
Many of these innovations have been positive, with people’s life expectancies increasing substantially. Modern medicine has reached levels of capability and effectiveness unparalleled in history, and people are living longer than ever before and in many regards are achieving strong qualities of life. Despite these notions, many negatives have also come with innovation. The rise of processed, “fast” foods has resulted in seriously detrimental nutritional changes in the United States. The country has become obese and is consistently ranked in the top 10 of the most overweight and unhealthy nations as a collective in the world.
Many people simply do not take good care of themselves, and while many people bear personal responsibility for their own realities, part of it is not the fault of the individual, but rather society. American government bodies at every level have permitted the usages of chemicals and additives in foods that have been banned elsewhere. Cancer levels, especially amongst young people, are skyrocketing. Genetically modified food are also a concern. In recent reports, resistant bacteria has been uncovered in dog foods and meats found in the U.K.. The trends regarding foods even in nations outside are troubling.
