Eight-Year-Old Boy Saves Younger Sister From Pit Bull Attack

In a Michigan suburb, eight-year-old Nicholas Chitwood rescued his more minor sister, Lillian, from a ferocious pit bull when the dog found a way into their yard. The attack may have been lethal if Nicholas hadn’t acted quickly and bravely.

Before the fully grown pit bull could hurt his mauled his sister any further, he halted it in its tracks and whisked her to safety. Lillian’s face has significant nerve damage, and she is still in excruciating agony. The doctors are still unsure if Lillian will require more surgery.

Lillian was bitten in the face and neck by the neighbor’s dog as the family was playing at their grandparents’ home. Nicholas was prompted to act by a scream, and he actually sprang onto the vicious dog. He diverted the dog’s attention away from her and kicked it until her grandfather arrived to assist. Lillian was left with bites to her neck, some of which came dangerously close to severing her carotid artery. She was sent to the University of Michigan, where she had her left eyelid restored.

She is still facing a lengthy road to recovery.

Rebecca Chitwood, Lilians’s mother, rushed to the hospital as soon as she got the call that her daughter had been attacked at the grandparent’s house. The yard is completely fenced in, but the dog found an opening and immediately zeroed in on the young girl. Her screams alerted her brother and he heroically ran toward danger to save his little sister.

Nicholas jumped on top of the dog. He managed to divert the savage dog’s attention and began kicking it.

Eight-year-old bespectacled Nicholas said he just didn’t want her to die.

Lillian is very proud of her big brother and says he is the best brother in the world.

Authorities picked up the dog and had him euthanized.
