Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance said he doesn’t care about polls and believes they are fake. Speaking on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania, a reporter asked the Ohio Senator to comment on revelations that Vice President Kamala Harris had closed the poll gap in the Keystone State and jumped ahead of Joe Biden’s previous ranking. He replied saying he does not believe any poll that says the two sides are tied, or that put Democrats in the lead. “Our job is to win the trust of the American voters, not public opinion polls,” be added.
Senator Vance also pointed out that the polls predicted he would lose his Senate election in 2022, but he won convincingly. He went on to claim that the media publishes pro-Democrat surveys to depress Republican voter confidence and shift the conversation away from policy.
While some polls have shown Harris leading, others place the two sides neck-and-neck, and some place the former President in front. Following reports that Harris was ahead in key battleground states, a new survey by Navigator Research conducted from July 31 to August 8 suggested this was untrue. It found that the two candidates are tied in Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, and Trump is ahead in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
Nevertheless, poll results published by YouGov on August 20 showed Harris ahead by 46% to 43% nationally. According to an On Point Politics survey, the Vice President is ahead by 50% to 48%, and by 48% to 44% on Morning Consult.
In terms of favorability, Trump’s numbers have fallen, and according to the Economist on August 20, the former President is down to 55% unfavorability. In the same poll, Vice President Harris’s favorability matches her unfavorability at 49% each.
Among independent voters, Harris is also up. According to Morning Consult, 38% of independents back Trump, but 42% are supporting Kamala Harris. The gender divide is also growing. Harris’s support among women has increased by 12%, and 56% of women now say they will vote for Harris, compared to 44% who remain enthusiastic about Donald Trump.
