Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has warned Republicans she is “out to get” them, adding, “You’re dead.” The warning comes just weeks after President Joe Biden said violent rhetoric had no place in American politics following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Several commentators condemned Pelosi’s wording, with some saying she sounded like a “crime boss.”
The senior Democrat made the remarks during a media interview, calling the former President “unpatriotic” and saying she aims to secure his “downfall.” She added that she refuses to have any friendly relationships with Trump supporters and turned down invitations from Republicans, saying, “I do not like you. I’m out to get you. I’m out to get you.”
Referring to JD Vance’s attacks on Governor Tim Walz, whom he accused of stealing valor by exaggerating his military service history, Pelosi said it indicates a lack of arguments from the Trump camp. She described the attacks on Walz as evidence of “the bankruptcy of their ideas.”
Vance questioned Walz’s military past when a video surfaced showing the Governor implying that he had used weapons of war and that such weapons should not be on America’s streets. Trump’s running mate immediately snapped at Walz, saying he had never been to war but retired from the military to avoid deployment to Iraq.
Pelosi’s new book, The Art of Power: My Story as America’s First Woman Speaker of the House, is published this month, and reviews indicate that Donald Trump’s “unfitness” for office is a running theme. Pelosi has long stated that Trump is not mentally stable enough to be US President, and in her book, she claims several doctors have confided in her that he appears unwell and his “mental and psychological health was in decline.”
Such claims have increased in some quarters in recent weeks as the former President faces a Kamala Harris campaign taking an upbeat approach that appears popular with much of the American electorate. Media reports indicate that Trump is furious behind the scenes and struggling to contain his anger about election developments since Joe Biden left the White House race. Inside sources reportedly believe Trump is grappling with a coherent message to challenge Harris, leaving him increasingly frustrated.
