Teenager Suffers Severe Spinal Injury after Jumping in Pool

According to his relatives, a teen from Texas tried to escape a wasp by jumping into a pool, but he suffered a severed spinal cord.

An account set up on GoFundMe for SJ Williams’ medical bills states that on June 20, while running away from a wasp with a buddy at a community pool, the thirteen-year-old either plunged or flipped head-first into the shallow end of the pool, breaking many bones and cutting his spinal cord.

His family described on the GoFundMe page that he said all he remembers after the jump is floating face down in the pool, thinking that his arm was floating next to him (because he couldn’t feel it). He said he swallowed water in an attempt to stave off drowning as he was immobile. According to his pals, they initially assumed he was only floating around and having fun.

According to SJ’s family, he may not be here today if a buddy of his hadn’t seen he wasn’t joking.

The family went on to describe the terrible news that SJ was transported to the hospital. Explaining that the victim’s spinal cord was cut to the point that he is unable to move his limbs.

SJ is now a patient in the pediatric intensive care unit. Repairs were made to the broken bones. The spinal cord, however, is the body’s central nervous system, and apparently it can’t be fixed.

The incident occurred at a Frisco, Texas, community pool in Old Orchard Park.

His loved ones said that he was able to resume his regular eating and drinking habits eight days after beginning his recovery. For SJ’s complete recovery, they persist in holding out hope.

Anya, SJ’s mother, posted on Facebook after the tragedy. Life happens quickly, and you never think it’ll happen to you until it happens to you.

She went on to say that she refuses “to believe this is SJ’s story.” She expressed her belief that he has an abundance of life experiences to relish and savor truly.
